Kyle Ek, a resident of La Cañada, received a Bachelor of Arts in political science during the December 2012 SMU commencement ceremony. After the university-wide commencement, SMU’s schools and departments held individual receptions throughout the day to honor graduates.

SMU is a nationally ranked private university in Dallas founded 100 years ago.

The following students were named to the Southern Methodist University undergraduate honor roll for the fall 2012 semester:

La Cañada residents Daniel Trujillo, junior, and Jacob Johnson, first year, were named to the honor roll with distinction, which includes students in the top 10 percentile.

Kristine Locker, also a resident of La Cañada and a sophomore at SMU, was named to the honor roll, which includes students in the top 15 percentile.

SMU’s fall 2012 enrollment included 10,893 students.

Several local residents made the academic deans’ list at Azusa Pacific University. These students are honored for a fall 2012 grade point average of 3.5 or better. They are joined by 1,698 students receiving the same honor.

From La Crescenta: biology major David S. Aguilar, Christian ministries major Kimberly R. Cox, cinematic arts major Yna A. Roa, applied exercise science major Charles S. Tobola, social work major Jacob T. Walker and mathematics major Robert L. Walker.

From La Cañada: art major Rachel E. Baydian, psychology major Madeline Harbolt, biblical studies major Mitchell T. Harbolt, psychology major Hyun Seo Lee, accounting major Shabnam M. Talab and biochemistry major Kelsey Wong.

La Cañada’s Caroline Rhymer, a theatre studies: acting major at Emerson College, has been cast as Margaret in Emerson Stage’s production of “Newfest 2013: Catatonia.”

Emerson’s production is by theatre studies major Dan Robert, ‘13, winner of the Rod Parker Playwriting Fellowship, and directed by Joe Antoun.

Purdue University awarded about 3,300 degrees to students following the fall semester.
Those earning degrees include Tyler Bell of La Crescenta who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
