The Women’s Council of Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation kicked off the fundraising year recently with its third annual Bingo event where eight rounds of Bingo, great company and a delicious lunch were provided.

The Foundation began in the 1970s and has provided essential items to the hospital and its patients. The Women’s Council currently has around 65 members and has raised more than $3 million over the years.

The WC’s main goal for the event was to show the community a good time and offer a chance to visit the hospital for a light and fun occasion. CEO and president Len LaBella wanted to also give visitors an opportunity to have an inside look at the hospital and meet those involved with the daily inner workings of the facility.

Bingo co-chairs and longtime WC members Chris Rothrock and Randy Alejo-Medina provided a pleasant environment for all who attended. Fellow members Teri Rice and Kate Kaneko said the annual Bingo event is more of a community event and they hoped that the 70-plus participants had a good time.

Though committee member and In Service volunteer Ruth Mc Nevin has a full time job in real estate, she still finds time to be a part of the team that contributes to the hospital’s success. She noted many contributions the WC has made over the years like redoing the emergency room and supplying computer access where there previously was none.

Several ladies won prizes that included generous gift cards to local supermarkets and department stores.

Upcoming fundraisers include a fashion show and a day trip to a local casino.
