Over 200 divers from 10 teams across Southern California competed in the Annual 2012 Rose Bowl Dive Invitational held March 17 and March 18 at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. Rose Bowl placed first with 1059 points, an overwhelming 275 points over second place Crown Valley.
The competition began at 9 a.m. and concluded around 6 p.m. Divers, ages 5 to 18, were grouped by age and gender and competed in the 1- and 3-meter springboards as well as the 5-, 7.5- and 10-meter platforms. Medals were given to those who placed in the top six.
Multiple local athletes competed including Kory Taylor, an eighth-grader at La Cañada Jr. High; Matthew Baker, a fifth-grader at Palm Crest Elementary; Sydney Okland, a seventh-grader at La Cañada Jr. High; Caroline Bender, a freshman at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy; and Haley Ragusa, a seventh-grader at La Cañada Jr. High.
The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is dedicated to providing the finest aquatic and fitness opportunities through instruction, training and competition. There are over 17 coaches, many with Olympic competitive and coaching experience, that provide direction for over 500 team members who work out daily on the swim team, 220 on the water polo team and 80 on the dive team.
