Clayton Carver Weirick of La Cañada was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Weirick is enrolled in the university’s College of Arts & Sciences.
To qualify for the dean’s list in the College of Arts & Sciences, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.
Washington University is counted among the world’s leaders in teaching and research, and it draws students and faculty to St. Louis from all 50 states and more than 120 nations. The total student body is more than 14,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

Angela Gaignard of Sunland recently earned experience while volunteering for the Special Olympics Arkansas AREA at Southern Arkansas University. Gaignard is a senior athletic training major. She volunteered in the Special Olympics Arkansas AREA as a scorekeeper.
The Special Olympics is an annual event hosted by the Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation Dept. at SAU. The Special Olympics offers students a hands-on experience to practice class lessons and also an opportunity to give back to the community.

Army and Navy Academy announced the students who earned a place on the honor roll for the fourth grading period of the 2014-15 school year. To be named to the honor roll, the student must achieve a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Cadets named to the honor roll include Brandon Um of La Cañada, GPA of 3.57, and Ian Kim of Shadow Hills, GPA of 3.71.

Jin Hye Lee of Montrose and Carolyn McLaughlin of La Cañada Flintridge were named to the dean’s list of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, for the 2014 fall semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.850 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean’s List.
Emory University is known for its demanding academics, outstanding undergraduate experience, highly ranked professional schools and state-of-the-art research facilities.

Flintridge Preparatory School graduate Lukas Currim, a peace & conflict studies major from La Cañada Flintridge, has earned the dean’s award for academic excellence at Colgate University for the fall 2014 semester.
Students with a 3.30 or higher term average while enrolled in 3.75 or more course hours are eligible for dean’s award recognition at Colgate.
Colgate offers 54 majors to a diverse student body of approximately 2,900 undergraduate students, and supports 25 Division I athletic teams. The university’s 575-acre campus in rural central New York is renowned for its beauty and for the important role it plays in the student experience.

Lisa Kenigson of La Crescenta has been named to the chancellor’s list at Troy University in Alabama for term three of the 2014-15 academic year.
The chancellor’s list honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for 12 semester hours and who have a grade point average of 4.0.
Term three consists of students at Troy’s campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Alabama, and Global Campus, which consists of teaching sites outside of Alabama and online.

Galileo Nunez, Tujunga resident and a student at the Pratt Institute, was among more than 1,000 PL students who made the president’s list in the fall 2014 semester. Eun Young Oh of La Crescenta, who is also a student at Pratt Institute, was among more than 1,100 students who made the dean’s list in the fall 2014 semester.

Brandon Um of La Cañada has been awarded Army and Navy Academy’s General William W. Crouch Distinguished Leadership Award for his performance during the fall 2014 semester.
The award is granted each semester to cadets who serve with distinction in a leadership position of platoon sergeant or higher in the academy’s corps of cadets. They must also have received a semester grade point average of 3.3 or higher, a leadership education training (LET) grade of an “A,” and a citizenship grade of excellent during each grading period.

On April 7, Jessica Palacios, a 2012 graduate of Clark Magnet High School and a junior at Whitman College, a highly selective private liberal arts college in Walla Walla, Washington, will present her original research as part of The Whitman College Undergraduate Conference.
The 17th Annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference brings together students from every academic area of the college to share their research and creative projects with the campus community. The projects are a result of the students’ work in their courses, senior theses, summer internships and study abroad.

Abigail Roberts of Tujunga was one of more than 100 students to participate in community service through Simpson University’s “strike teams” during the fall 2014 semester. Roberts is majoring in liberal studies.
Students helped with 32 projects, including cleanup, events, moving and maintenance, at many different locations.
“Strike teams” at Simpson University in Redding began during the 2012-13 school year after the university’s ninth annual Day of Service, when students served at more than 10 locations in the Redding area. With a heart for serving the local community, the university created an initiative to continue service year-round. Since September 2012, more than 100 projects have been completed.

Katherine Johnson of La Cañada was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester at Saint Mary’s College. A student must achieve a semester grade point average of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale with at least 12 graded hours to earn academic honors at Saint Mary’s.
Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, is a four-year, Catholic, residential, women’s liberal arts college offering five bachelor’s degrees and more than 30 major areas of study, such as business, nursing, art, chemistry, and social work.

Ian Kim of Shadow Hills has been named a 2015 Winter Season Union-Tribune San Diego All Academic Athlete for his academic and athletic accomplishments. The Union-Tribune San Diego All-Academic Team recognizes juniors and seniors who participated in a California Interscholastic Federation-approved varsity sport and maintained an un-weighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the most current grading period.
The Winter All-Academic Teams recognize athletes in basketball, soccer, and wrestling.
Kim was named to the All-Academic basketball team with a GPA of 4.09.

Lake Forest College student Keenan Buchanan ‘15 of La Cañada recently presented at Lake Forest College’s 18th Annual Steven Galovich Memorial Student Symposium. This event celebrates students’ academic achievements and creative talents by showcasing research and scholarship from every academic discipline in a variety of venues and forums. Presentations are drawn from the college’s freshman honors programs, senior thesis research, independent study, internships, and other exceptional individual and team-based student research.
