AHG Receives ‘A’ for Patient Safety

The Leapfrog Group, a Washington, D.C.-based organization whose goal is to improve healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, released the new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Adventist Health Glendale (AHGL) was one of 750 awarded an ‘A’ for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns a grade of A, B, C, D or F to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

“Having earned our seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog is a testament that providing excellent and safe care is engrained in our culture at AHGL. Our physicians, nurses, and associates are committed to creating a safe environment and reducing hospital acquired complications. We want our community members to feel confident that at AHGL, we put patient safety first,” said Despina Kayichian, MD, VP of Medical Affairs and Quality at AHGL.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The report is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
