The Past Celebrated at Decades Fundraiser

Taking home prizes for best period costumes were (from left) Vickie Guagliardo, Marianne Jennings, Chick Chicone and Gloria Beyer.

Eras of the 20th century were celebrated on Saturday night at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club when club members hosted Salute to the Decades. The fundraiser featured classic cars on display from the Early Rodders including a 1933 Ford driven by “gangster” Chick Chicone with his “moll” Molly Shelton, a 1946 Ford belonging to G.I. Soldier Joey Halaran with his “South Pacific” date Robin Goldsworthy at his side, a fabulous 1957 thunderbird by Dwight Sityar with his bride Carol in the passenger seat and a Surfin’ Safari 1960s Volkswagen bug. In addition, there was food and drink and live entertainment from the Theater Americana. This cover band took guests back to the ’50s and ’60s, delivering hit pop songs of the decades loaded with fun that got everybody singing and even (sometimes) dancing.

The night was made even more “magical” with magician Mark Anthony performing close-up magic that dazzled guests.

A “speakeasy” overseen by Mike Maluccio and Gary Clark made sure that everyone was warm from the inside despite cooler outdoor temperatures. Silent auction items filled tables and had guests watching closely to see if they were outbid.

Guests were encouraged to dress in period costumes and for that were awarded for their efforts. Vicki Gauglardi, Marianne Jennings, Chick Chicone and Gloria Beyer were each presented with prizes for their costumes that spanned several decades.
