Twelve Oaks Senior Living Hosts Grand Opening

Twelve Oaks Senior Living, formerly known as Twelve Oaks Lodge, has completed its $1.5 million renovation and will host a complimentary grand opening on Sunday, May 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Open to the public, this event is perfect for interested residents and their families and members of the community who have supported the facility for many years.

The Twelve Oaks team will provide tours of the new facilities and will be on hand to provide information and answer guests’ questions. Twelve Oaks Senior Living is managed by Northstar Management and owned by The Twelve Oaks Foundation.

“Our current residents love the renovated buildings, including the open and bright pavilion where many of their activities take place, and where meals are served,” Rose Chan Loui, Twelve Oaks Foundation board member, said. “The renovated Oaks building, where our residents live, is equally cheerful, comfortable and provide all the safety features our residents require. “

“Northstar Senior Living is dedicated to exemplary service in our communities and the highest quality of life for our residents,” said Steve Kregel, C.O.O. of Northstar Senior Living. “Twelve Oaks Senior Living staff is like family where residents are kept safe and comfortable in a welcoming community.”

Residents and their loved ones are especially complimentary of Twelve Oaks’ food services director and chef’s culinary creations. Residents have had fresh pumpkin soup and pie made from a 50-pound pumpkin grown by executive director Sandy Solis’ husband, stuffed pork tenderloin with spinach and mozzarella cheese, roasted squash, sautéed chicken breast with onions and peppers, white bean soup and homemade cheesecake.

Since its inception nearly 80 years ago, Twelve Oaks has always been supported by local service organizations, including National Charity League of Glendale, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Already these organizations have made significant contributions to Twelve Oaks by renovating the hair salon and hosting game mornings, root beer socials and landscaping and gardening projects. This summer they will host “puppy parties” and barbecues.

Community amenities include a hair salon and library. Landscaped grounds with walking paths, a large outdoor patio shaded by oak trees, gardening beds, the original rose garden, and oak and fruit trees all provide a peaceful and tranquil environment for residents to socialize and to walk their pets. Activities are offered every day, including bingo and other games, arts and crafts, sit and stretch, volleyball balloon, tea time and more.

The Oaks building currently has a total of 28 rooms and from 30 to 35 beds available. Starting at $3,500 per month for a studio unit, residents enjoy three restaurant-style meals per day, optional additional services, daily activities, a full-time nurse, a call system, 24-hour staffing, weekly housekeeping, laundry, and cable TV.

Twelve Oaks Lodge dates back to 1935 when James and Effie Fifield donated their 13-room home to the Verdugo Hills Sunshine Society for the purpose of providing a home for elderly women. National Charity League of Glendale has been involved with Twelve Oaks Lodge since the 1950s, initially providing funding and volunteer time, and eventually becoming the primary steward of the Foundation and the home. After 10 years under management by another company, the home was closed in October 2013. NCL Glendale regained control of the Foundation in August 2015, and the Foundation has now been reconstituted with independent board members.
