The La Crescenta Woman’s Club was a big winner at the district convention in April. The Club walked away with 10 first place awards, three second place awards and three third place awards. They received first place in home life, education, fundraising, international outreach, conservation, public issues, communication & public relations, domestic violence, advocates for children and membership. Their second and third place awards were in women’s history, arts, leadership, club newsletter, legislation & public policy and the Award of Excellence.
This year the Club Woman of the Year Award was given to Cindy Charles.
Charles works continuously for the club at all levels while holding down a full time position outside of the home. She is the club’s webmaster and co-chair for membership. She was lauded for her many talents and generosity, which are appreciated every day. Charles is a longtime resident of the La Crescenta community.
Another milestone that was celebrated at the convention was the presentation of 25-year pins to Carol Benedetti and Merry Kropff.
The two women have each volunteered over 25 years at the LCWC make the Woman’s Club a success. Benedetti has held several offices on the board over the years. She was the House chair for more than three years, making sure the vintage clubhouse was kept in order and maintained. Her job consisted of taking responsibility to ensure all repairs were completed, ordering supplies, managing the upkeep and making sure the clubhouse ran at top performance.
Kropff is a member of the Junior section and is now the curator for them. She has held positions in the Junior section and has been a solid role model to the junior members for many years.
The convention was held at the Ontario Radisson Hotel. There are 27 Woman’s Clubs in the San Gabriel Valley District. The convention had about 120 in attendance for the two-day event. Each club submitted their reports to the convention committee for review and consideration. The top clubs were honored with awards depending on their contributions to the community.
The La Crescenta Woman’s Club works hard all year to achieve their goals in helping the community through work and monetary donations. They give scholarships each year to local high school students to assist with their success in the future. They conduct fundraisers during the year to not only give back, but to maintain the clubhouse on La Crescenta Avenue.
