Family and friends of Katherine Reinhard Williams celebrated the centenarian’s birthday on May 14. Born in 1911 in a house on Los Feliz Boulevard at Vermont, Williams was about 3 years old when the family moved to Montrose due to her brother’s asthma.
The family lived on Glenada Avenue in a stone house, one of the few houses in the area at that time. She attended Los Feliz Elementary School, Glendale High School, Pomona College for her BA and Berkeley for her teaching credential.
At Berkeley she met her husband Bob Williams. When they married they bought a house on Glenada across the street from her parents. The couple had two children, Wendy and Bruce, and the family lived on Glenada until the Foothill [210] Freeway was built. They then moved to La Crescenta on Willowhaven where she lives today.
Williams taught at Montrose Elementary School for many years and then was a counselor in several schools in the Glendale Unified School District. She has been very active in Toastmistresses, Descanso Gardens and Questors.
