The La Crescenta Woman’s Club (LCWC) awarded $3,000 to 2022 scholarship winners at its May meeting.
The six scholarships of $500 each were awarded to exemplary students in the area. The Dick Huntwork engineering scholarship was awarded to Teleya Blunt of Crescenta Valley High School (CVHS).
The Roberta Kurtz Award, in remembrance of the club’s early president, is a continuing scholarship for fine arts and was awarded to Rene Baker from Clark Magnet High School.
Four general scholarships were presented to Lauren Curtis of CVHS, Crystal Stylc of Glendale High School, Rachel Lee and Zachary Roh, both from CVHS.
The LCWC scholarship program has continued over the years and a new scholarship will be given starting next year to honor Deanna Alfeld, whose memorial is June 20. Donations to any of these scholarships can be made through the LCWC website.
In addition to the checks, the winners were honored with certificates from Congressman Adam Schiff, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, State Senator Anthony Portantino, Assemblymember Laura Friedman and CV Town Council President Harry Leon.
The May meeting was also a goodbye to one of the club’s great presidents, Carol Huntwork, who is moving to Napa to be closer to her family. She passed on the president pin to incoming President Danette Erickson.
