LCFOG Prepares for New Events

Khedhar, the VIP Ambassador Patient at the Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) Urgent Care, was treated for an emergency life-threatening condition but his life and his limb were saved because of the expertise in the OIC Urgent Care. Khedhar will be part of the program on July 23.

The La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild (LCGOG) held its last meeting on June 6, taking a summer recess until reconvening in September.

There is much excitement on the near-horizon for Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC). There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 23 from 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. celebrating the grand opening of the new OIC Urgent Care Center. The festivities will include champagne, food, music and congratulatory comments from dignitaries. All are welcome to attend.

Currently at OIC, more than 70,000 pediatric patient visits are experienced annually, which translates to thousands of children who receive orthopaedic medical care each year, regardless of ability to pay. It is projected with the opening of the new OIC Urgent Care Center on Friday, July 26 patient visits will quickly soar past the 80,000 mark. It will be the largest dedicated pediatric orthopaedic urgent care center in the nation.

OIC opened in 1911 with a mission to provide children with musculoskeletal injuries or disorders excellent orthopaedic medical care regardless of ability to pay.  OIC recently expanded The Center for Cerebral Palsy in partnership with UCLA and is the only interdisciplinary clinic in Southern California that offers evaluation and treatment. OIC has an international impact and welcomes children from all over the world; every year children from Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America are seen. This spring, LCFOG donated $26,000 to OIC, raised mainly at the Book and Author luncheon held in 2018. A fundraiser on May 7 at the New Moon restaurant in Montrose was successful and raised almost $300.

OIC’s $20 million campaign for construction of the medical pavilion, including enhanced services such as the urgent care center, pharmacy, and radiology, has raised over $12.2 million, over half of its goal. LCFOG’s annual fundraiser will be held Oct. 22 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Information will be announced closer to the date.
