The ladies of Las Candelas held their end-of-year installation meeting via Zoom on Thursday, May 27. Installing the 2021-22 officers and chairmen was past president Nancy Stone. Stone used the theme “A Palette of Colors” as she welcomed the new slate. Serving as 2021-22 president will be Rosina Maize. Other officers include First Vice-President Lynne Naeve, Third Vice-Presidents Karen Swan and Carol Ann Burton, Fourth Vice-Presidents Jeri Clark and Teresa Nall, Fifth Vice-President Margaret Cline, Sixth Vice-Presidents (Benefit Chairs) Diane Russell, Nancy Stone and Teresa Nall, Recording Secretary Pauline Beebe, Corresponding Secretary Anna Brewer, Philanthropic Treasurer Patti Baker, Business Treasurer Ellyn Semler and Parliamentarian Jeri Clark.
The ladies of Las Candelas also welcomed four new active members at the meeting: Sharon Hawkins, Carol Ann Burton, Linda Teeter and Kay Ladanyi.
Outgoing President JC Byer thanked the members for their flexibility during the past year. Although the members were not able to offer their usual “hands-on” activities and programs to children and youth in vulnerable situations, they nevertheless provided financial assistance to Hathaway-Sycamores, Hillsides, Hillsides Youth Moving On, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services of Glendale, Ascencia, and the YWCA of Glendale and Pasadena. The guest chef program at Ascencia did continue during the lockdown with the group modifying its food service to curbside delivery rather than its normal in-person service. Because of COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings, the Las Candelas Benefit Fashion Show and Luncheon had to be postponed to 2022, but the members were grateful for the generous donations made by their supporters that allowed their philanthropic donations to continue. Las Candelas is now planning its next benefit, “Love Has No Limits,” to be held on March 7, 2022.
Byer wished everyone a safe and happy break and invited all to reconvene at their annual summer party at Oakmont Country Club on Sunday, Sept. 12. Las Candelas will launch its 2021-22 programs in October under the leadership of newly installed president Rosina Maize.
Incorporated in 1955, Las Candelas’ mission is to give volunteer service and financial assistance to help improve the lives of children and youth in vulnerable situations and to support awareness of their mental health needs.
