It was a beautiful and sunny spring afternoon, perfectly representing the theme chosen by NCL Glendale Class of 2015 – California Dreamin’ – for the chapter’s 63rd annual Mother-Daughter Awards Tea and Fashion Show held at the Pasadena Convention Center. The girls walked the runway in brightly colored shorts and skirts and tropical beach wear while boys wearing Hawaiian shirts carried surfboards, tennis rackets and beach bikes in front of more than 350 guests.
Guests enjoyed a silent auction and opportunity drawing benefiting one of the organization’s philanthropies and a buffet of hors d’oeuvres, sweets and tea in the lobby. After the ballroom doors opened, outgoing chapter President Rose Chan introduced the brand new Ticktockers who were with their mothers attending their first event as members.
Other Ticktockers were recognized who had gone over and above the service hour requirements during the past year. Fourteen Ticktockers from the incoming 11th grade class modeled fun and carefree fashions from Bloomingdale’s, White House/Black Market, and Cowgirl Princess in La Cañada.
The California Dreamin’ fashion show closed as the young ladies wearing evening gowns were accompanied by tuxedoed “dates” in the traditional “prom scene.” Six young men from local schools – Michael Cassutt from Flintridge Prep, and Trent Bauer, Dylan Boyack, Connor Bradley, Kevin DePriest and Evan Valencia from La Cañada High – joined the show, doubling as cabana boys and escorts.
To prepare for the complicated choreography on the runway, the girls attended training sessions with modeling professionals Nicole Stewart and Karen Buckel. The event was planned by 9th VP Awards Tea Chair Julia Kwon and her dedicated committee. The silent auction and opportunity drawing were organized by 4th VPs Ways and Means Suzann Cooper and Kirsten Newquist. Proceeds will be used to fund sessions at YWCA of Glendale Summer Day Camp for children from families receiving services through the YWCA domestic violence shelter and programs.
In addition to the fashion show, guests were addressed by the event speakers, senior award winners Daisy Beckner and Alexa Rittichier.
