The Junior League of Pasadena, Inc. (JLP) announced that Sara Hatch has been named 2019-20 president of the local 93-year-old women’s volunteer and leadership organization, which has more than 500 active and sustaining members in the San Gabriel Valley area.

Members of the JLP are looking forward to her leadership. The JLP takes an issue-area-focused approach to its volunteer efforts and members approach the organization’s chosen issue area after being trained and educated in its root causes and influences. With an issue area, for example, of women in the labor force, the members are educated in labor force statistics for women, the factors that negatively impact earnings gaps, how state and federal policy impact working women, what non-profit resources and services are available. This is so they will be impactful when volunteering. Members of the JLP volunteer hundreds of hours each year to support this core issue area and the women in the local community.

Hatch is beginning her fifth active year of membership with the Junior League of Pasadena, having served on the New Member Committee and in such leadership roles as marketing chair, operations director, and president-elect. She has been passionate about volunteering for years, having also donated time with KEY Club and Kiwanis. Hatch moved to Pasadena 14 years ago to pursue her dream job, which she now holds as a mission design and navigation engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

“I’m looking forward to all the collaborations we have planned this year, especially with other women’s and women-led organizations, as we celebrate the centennial of the passing of the 19th Amendment,” said Hatch. “It’s so inspiring to look back at the 93 years of history and accomplishments and know that our amazing members are working hard to lay the groundwork for improving our community for decades to come.”

Hatch has been a part of JLP’s facilitation of debuting PasadenaHelp.org, a database of community services available to the people of Greater Pasadena. She said she looks forward to continuing her involvement with the local resource, in particular continuing to develop a sustainable infrastructure and support for the site.

“Getting to know Sara better over the last few years has been a pleasure and JLP is in the best of hands,” said JLP past-president 2018-19 Charlotte Miles. “She is very dedicated, caring and innovative. Her passion and determination will make this year a successful and fun time to be a part of JLP.”
