John Callow from La Cañada received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Whitman College at the 2011 commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22. A total of 378 degrees were conferred at the ceremony in front of an estimated crowd of 4,000 students, faculty, staff and visiting guests.
This year’s commencement speaker and recipient of an honorary doctor of humane letters degree was Whitman alumna Meda Chesney-Lind, class of 1969, a professor of women’s studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
John Thomas Treadwell, class of 2013 at Skidmore College, earned honors for the spring semester. He is the son of Mark Treadwell and Patricia Anderson of La Cañada.
Highest honors are awarded for a quality point ratio of 3.670 or more from a possible 4.0. Honors are awarded for a grade point ratio of 3.4 to 3.669.
Matthew Brown of La Cañada and Elizabeth Charky of Montrose achieved dean’s honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.3, or dean’s high honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.7, for the 2011 spring semester at Connecticut College.
Brown, class of 2011, has been named to the dean’s honors list. Charky,
class of 2013, has been named to the dean’s honors list.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Villanova University announced that freshman Alexis Budzyn and junior Samara Cahill, both of La Cañada, qualified for the spring 2011 dean’s list.
The Villanova School of Business announced that La Cañadan Brittany Ek has been named to the dean’s list for the 2011 spring semester.
Every year, students with established outstanding academic records are honored by the dean of each college. To qualify for the dean’s list, one must be a matriculated full-time student and earn a semester grade point average of 3.5, with no missing or non-passing grades.
