McGroarty Arts Center recently appointed Roy Mueller, a highly regarded non-profit arts administrator with roots in Southern California, as its new executive director.  Mueller brings to the Center years of experience and success, including serving as executive director of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus and the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum, where he led a successful four-year $5.2 million capital campaign to design and build a new facility. He also developed innovative art and science education programs for a diverse community audience during his tenure as education director of Pasadena’s Kidspace Museum. Mueller has collaborated with a variety of Los Angeles-area arts organizations including the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Pasadena Symphony and Shumei Arts Council.

Mueller was introduced to the community on June 7, during the opening reception of the Center’s 11th Annual Ceramics Exhibition and Sale.

“It is an honor to lead this extraordinary grass-roots organization,” said Mueller. “I am particularly excited about our expanded summer schedule, which includes an Art All Day summer program, as well as several new classes and workshops.”

Art All Day summer camp is for kids ages 7-15 and features yoga, expressive arts, puppet making, clay play and creative drama. The Center also offers a variety of special one-day workshops, including “Wine & Watercolor,” which is held on the third Friday of each month. The Center also hosts and produces a variety of special events, such as exhibitions and concerts that engage and educate the greater public, while preserving the legacy of California poet laureate, John Steven McGroarty, and his historic home.

McGroarty Arts Center is located at 7570 McGroarty Terrace in Tujunga. For more information, call 818-352-5285 or visit www.mcgroartyartscenter.org.
