Angela Gaignard of Sunland, a senior athletic training major, and Cambria Martin of Tujunga, a senior exercise science major, were among the 253 students who qualified for the Southern Arkansas University president’s list following the spring 2014 semester.

Margaret Connell, a political science and computer science major from Montrose, and Madeline Crowley from La Cañada Flintridge, an environmental studies and studio art major, were named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester.
The dean’s list recognizes students with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.

Ryan Andrew Gerlach of La Cañada Flintridge received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Baylor University is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with “high research activity.”

Yeon Joo Hong has been named to the spring 2014 dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University. The biology student is from La Cañada.

James Lynch of La Cañada Flintridge, son of James and Elizabeth Lynch and a 2010 graduate of La Cañada High School, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and Spanish.

Emerson College student Young Min Kim of La Crescenta has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester. Kim is majoring in film production. The criterion to make the Emerson dean’s list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

The University of Dubuque congratulates Megan Siepler of La Cañada on being appointed to the spring semester 2014 academic dean’s list.  To be named to the dean’s list, a student must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for that semester.
The University of Dubuque, founded in 1852, is a private, coeducational, professional university with a focus in the liberal arts.

Amelia Palacios, the daughter of Maureen and Jorge Palacios of La Crescenta, has been named to the dean’s list of Macalester College for academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2013-14 school year.
A graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, Palacios was a first-year at Macalester last spring.

Kirk Seaman of La Cañada Flintridge graduated from Union College in New York on June 15.
Seaman, a geology major, graduated with 500 students on the college’s Hull Plaza as part of its 220th commencement. Seaman received a Bachelor of Science degree.

Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2013-14 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition.
Among those recognized were Daniel Lazier of La Cañada Flintridge, son of David and Janet Lazier; James Lynch, also of La Cañada Flintridge, son of James and Elizabeth Lynch and Kailey Tindle of Glendale, daughter of Amy Nance and Stephen and Vivian Tindle.

Students who achieve a 3.4 and no grade below a C were named to the list.

The University of Rhode Island and families recently celebrated the achievements of more than 680 students who received their master’s or doctoral degrees at the graduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17 at the Thomas M. Ryan Center on the Kingston Campus.
Graduate student Chrislyn Nefas of Sunland received a Master of Arts, psychology.
The graduating class on Saturday included 555 masters’ degree recipients and 129 doctorate degrees.

Marymount University announced that Heather Dishongh, a resident of Montrose, earned an MA in forensic psychology. Dishongh is among the more than 450 undergraduates and 350 graduate students who received degrees at the University’s Commencement Ceremonies at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, on May 18.

Alice E. Grubb Jones was one of 472 seniors who graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine on May 25, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree at the college’s 193rd commencement. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick was the guest speaker.
Grubb Jones, the daughter of Dayton Jones and Debra Grubb of La Cañada, majored in biology.

Lauren Galantai, a resident of La Cañada Flintridge, and Alex Shin, a resident of La Crescenta, are among the 229 high-achieving students from Whittier College who made the spring 2014 dean’s list.
Undergraduate students are awarded dean’s list honors if he or she earns a 3.70 grade point average (GPA) while completing a full-time course load (12 units) in the fall and spring terms.

Catherine Elizabeth Weirick was among 521 graduates awarded diplomas at Denison University’s 173rd commencement held May 17. Weirick, a resident of La Cañada, was awarded a degree from Denison by President Adam Weinberg.
Weirick graduated with a major in religion. She received the Alumni Award and studied abroad with the Arcadia College of Global Studies Program in Spain. Weirick conducted summer research on a project titled “Human sex trafficking and prostitution in Columbus, Ohio.” She participated in SHARE, played flag football, and is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Wheaton College (Illinois) student Hannah Jung of Glendale was recently inducted into the Psi Chi National Honor Society. The honor, which is presented by the Psychology Dept. at Wheaton College, was announced at Wheaton College’s honors convocation.
Psi Chi is the national honor society for undergraduate psychology majors and serves the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology. To be eligible for induction, a student must be at least a second-semester sophomore or above, have completed nine hours of psychology coursework with a 3.6 GPA, have an overall 3.5 GPA, and be in the top 35 percent of his or her class.

The following students received a degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, at its 169th commencement ceremony. Ester Jun of La Cañada received an Associate of Arts from Oxford College of Emory University on May 10 and Grace Lee of La Crescenta received a Bachelor of Arts from Emory College of Arts and Sciences of Emory University on May 12.
In addition, Hye Lee of Montrose was named to the dean’s list. Students must be in the top 20% of Emory College or have approximately a 3.859 grade point average or higher to be named to the dean’s list.
Emory University is known for its demanding academics, outstanding undergraduate experience, highly ranked professional schools and state-of-the-art research facilities.

The following local students were named to the Southern Methodist University undergraduate honor roll for the spring 2014 semester: Ricki Lubell, a sophomore from Glendale; Olivia Warner, a senior from La Cañada; Ryan Reed, a first year student from La Cañada Flintridge. The honor roll includes students in the top 15 percentile.
Daniel Trujillo, a senior from La Cañada Flintridge, was named to the honor roll with distinction, which includes students in the top 10 percentile.  Camille McCarty, a first year student from La Crescenta, was named to the honor roll with high distinction that includes students in the top 5 percentile.
The following La Cañada students were awarded degrees during SMU’s May 2014 commencement ceremonies:
MacKenzie Campbell received a Bachelor of Science in economics with finance applications, Kira Ramani received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and Katherine Brown received a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing.
SMU is a nationally ranked private university in Dallas founded 100 years ago. Today, SMU enrolls nearly 11,000 students who benefit from the academic opportunities and international reach of seven degree-granting schools.

Kaelin King of La Cañada Flintridge has been named to the 2014 spring semester dean’s list at Lafayette College for outstanding academic achievement. To qualify for dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a scale of 4.0. King is a graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School.
Lafayette is a top liberal arts college with 2,400 students and 215 full-time faculty that offers a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs including engineering.

Ro Morris Rowan, a 1997 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School and a 2004 graduate of UCLA, was awarded a degree in electronic production and design at Berklee College of Music in Boston on May 10.
Rowan graduated cum laude from Berklee with a 3.9 GPA. While she was a student at Berklee, she received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship, the Laurie Anderson Women in Music Technology Award, the Outstanding Scholar Award, the Berklee Achievement Scholarship and the North American Scholarship.
Rowan played cello in 309 studio recordings and film scoring sessions and 138 concerts (including performances with Annie Lennox, Willie Nelson and Lalah Hathaway).

Sara Keys of La Cañada graduated May 11 from Ohio Wesleyan University. Keys earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ohio Wesleyan’s class of 2014 included 390 spring, summer and fall graduates, with 65 cum laude, 33 magna cum laude, and 20 summa cum laude honorees.
