Carleton College awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree to 505 graduating members of the Class of 2017 on June 10 at its 143rd commencement ceremony.
Zachary Montes of La Crescenta graduated with a BA in cognitive science. Montes is the child of Raul and Laurie Montes of La Crescenta.
Ryan Schloessmann of Glendale (91208) graduated magna cum laude, with a BA in political science/international relations. Schloessmann is the child of Michael Schloessmann of La Cañada Flintridge and Melissa Vroman of Glendale. Schloessmann was also elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic fraternity.
Owen Solis of La Crescenta graduated magna cum laude with a BA in political science/international relations. Solis is the child of Scott Solis of Glendale and Margaret O’Rourke of La Crescenta. Solis was also elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic fraternity.
The Phi Beta Kappa national honorary scholastic fraternity was founded in 1776. The Carleton chapter was established in 1913 and elects its membership from students who rank in the highest 15% of their graduating class and meet other prescribed criteria.
Sacha Greenfield of La Crescenta was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa First Year Prize. Phi Beta Kappa prizes are offered annually by the Carleton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa to the sophomores who in the previous years held the highest class ranking in scholarship among the members of his or her respective class.

Russell Marki of La Cañada Flintridge has been named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire for earning high honors for the spring 2017 semester. Marki is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Students named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire are students who have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance during a semester enrolled in a full-time course load (12 or more graded credits). Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.
The University of New Hampshire hosts more than 16,000 students from all 50 states and 71 countries engage with an award-winning faculty in top ranked programs in business, engineering, law, liberal arts and the sciences across more than 200 programs of study.

Caroline R. Fontes was among 466 graduates awarded diplomas by President Adam Weinberg at Denison University’s 176th commencement ceremony, which was held Saturday, May 13. Fontes, a resident of La Cañada, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in educational studies and psychology from Denison.
Denison University’s place at the forefront of higher education is recognized by “Colleges That Change Lives,” U.S. News, and Forbes, among others. Denison is located in Granville, Ohio.

Binghamton University, State University of New York, announced the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester. This honor recognizes students who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Kristin Aline Crowder of La Crescenta was among those recognized.

More than 7,000 students received degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s spring commencement ceremonies on May 11-12.
Among the graduates were Michael Bonino-Britsch of Glendale, College of Letters and Science, master of public affairs, and John Louk from La Cañada, College of Letters and Science, bachelor of science, computer sciences.

Wheaton College student athlete Erika Johnson of Glendale was named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Academic All-Conference team. The Academic All-Conference team consists of letter winners from CCIW member institutions who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time. Kristen Hicks of La Crescenta graduated magna cum laude from Whitworth University having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies-political science. Hicks was also named to the provost’s honor roll for the spring semester.
Lois Lee of La Crescenta was also named to the Whitworth University provost’s honor roll for spring semester 2017.
The students qualified for the academic honor society by maintaining a grade-point average of at least 3.75 during the semester.
Located in Spokane, Washington, Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Lucas Rowton, of La Cañada Flintridge graduated from Fort Lewis College on April 29. Rowton graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.
Over 400 students participated in the spring commencement ceremony.

Erica Son, an occupational therapy major, was named to the dean’s list in Ithaca College’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance for the spring 2017 semester.
