Local National Charity League Chapter preparing for huge rummage sale to assist 12 Oaks residents
National Charity League, Inc Glendale Chapter’s special fundraising event Sellebration is coming Oct. 2 to the Pacific Community Center in Glendale and local volunteers are working hard to make it a success for the 12 Oaks Retirement Lodge in La Crescenta. Sellabration is a huge rummage sale to which over 140 NCL Glendale families and local merchants donate new and gently used clothing, housewares, electronics, books, toys and more. New or gently used high quality goods are offered to the public at low prices so families in need can obtain first-rate clothes and housewares they could not otherwise afford. Generous donations of new merchandise have already been received from Bellies, Babies and Bosums and Mountain Rose Gifts in Montrose, Ralphs in La Crescenta, Diane’s Hallmark in La Cañada, Apple Cart and Adobe in La Cañada. Net proceeds from Sellabration provide financial assistance to seniors living at 12 Oaks Retirement Lodge in La Crescenta and fund scholarships for deserving, needy young women from Glendale and La Cañada district high schools and local junior colleges. For many years, NCL has provided $30,000 or more a year to 12 Oaks Retirement Lodge residents so they can remain living there. “NCL Glendale is an amazing partner of 12 Oaks. Few retirement communities have a charitable organization of over 140 mother-daughter teams who not only raise money for our residents but also [provide] over a thousand hours of hands-on service and visits to us each year,” said Richard Rockwood, administrator of 12 Oaks Lodge. “The girls and moms garden for us, visit us, hold special parties for our residents and even make a special home cooked luncheon each month.” Sellebration is open to the public and is a great place to obtain great bargains. Hundreds of books are available every year, many from local elementary and high school reading lists.
