On Aug. 1, a vanload full of new and previously loved clothing was delivered to Meeting Each Need with Dignity – MEND – a charity in San Fernando.
The owner of these bags of clothing was a senior citizen almost 100 years old who loved to bowl, dance, swim and travel, and had the appropriate wardrobe (over 100 pieces) for each activity. When she moved into a retirement home, her family realized they had to sell her home and disburse her many belongings.
Her daughter, La Crescenta Woman’s Club member Gloria Lee, decided to donate her mother’s garments to MEND in the name of the Woman’s Club as the most appropriate charity to receive the attire.
Lee said that with the clothes comes hope. Perhaps her mom’s dance dresses will be used as prom dresses for young girls; a suit may be worn by a mother who is applying for work that can financially support her family; homeless men and boys might keep warm in the heavy coats and jackets next winter. This and much more is possible through the services provided by MEND.
