Golf Classes for Juniors — Saturdays at 9 a.m. Verdugo Hills Golf Course is offering one-hour golf classes for ages 5 to 15 every Saturday. The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club will next feature Mark Acuna and his program, Native Americans of the San Gabriels at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the CitiBank Building in Montrose.
Acuna is a Native American Tongva Indian. The word, “Tongva” means people of the earth. These early American people inhabited the area in and around Los Angeles before the Europeans arrived. The Tongva were among the few new world peoples who navigated the ocean regularly. Modern place-names with Tongva origins include Pacoima, Tujunga, Topanga, Rancho Cucamonga, Azusa and Cahuenga Pass. The program begins following news of outings and conservation. These programs are always free and families are welcome. Refreshments will be served. La Cañada Kiwanis Annual Travel Adventures series begins Oct. 17. Each program features a popular travel destination. The programs are presented in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada Flintridge. Season tickets are $40 and tickets for individual performances are $8. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. There will be pre-show entertainment starting at 7:10 p.m.
There will be six programs in the series. The first program is “Bhutan: The Cloud Kingdom” by Tom Sterling.
