America On the Move Week with the YMCA focuses on engaging people of all ages in programs that emphasize energy balance – a balance between the amount of calories eaten and the amount of calories burned through physical activity. Research from America On the Move Foundation (AOM), a national non-profit with the aim of improving the quality of life for individuals, families, communities and society, has shown that making small changes each day to maintain good health does make a difference.
The YMCA of the Foothills extends an invitation to join communities from approximately 1,400 YMCAs nationwide as they work towards logging in 90 million steps over the course of the week. “Steps” are awarded for actual steps taken during the week as well as equivalents for all other forms of physical activity, such as swimming, biking and dancing.
The doors of the Y will be open to the community during America On the Move Week, Sept.19 through Sept. 27.
Stop in and join us for just one of the many activities, lectures and workshops offered during the week. Highlights of the free activities during the week include:
Saturday, Sept. 19 – Kick Off Walk at 8:00 a.m. Meet at either the Foothills or Verdugo Hills branch. Participants will walk to New York Park and back. Bottled water and snacks will be provided at the park. Round trip walk is 4.3 miles.
Wednesday, Sept. 23 – Harvest Ball for All from noon to 3 p.m. at the VHY gymnasium.

Thursday, Sept. 24 – What Work Out is Right for You workshop from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. at the CCY Patio Room.
