The Glendale Educational Foundation held a wine tasting fundraiser at local business Rosso Wine Shop on Thursday evening. Attending were a variety of GEF supporters who had a chance sample some exceptional wines while learning more of the organization and its upcoming plans.
“‘Raise a Glass for Education’ was an opportunity for GEF and its board members to connect with business partners and supporters in a fun setting,” said GEF President Eric Hamilton. “Jeff Zimmitti, owner of the Rosso Wine Shop, selected and educated attendees on the wine and cheese pairings from Argentina, California, France and Italy.”
The Glendale Educational Foundation is a group of teachers, parents, alumni, and business professionals dedicated to working together to generate funds for three specific areas of the District: visual and performing arts, science and technology, and health and fitness. Each year at its gala, typically held in February or March, outstanding alumni in each of these areas are honored. This year’s emphasis, “Get Everybody Fit,” will help purchase sports equipment for fitness programs for all schools in the district and falls under the area of health and fitness.
Aside from the gala, another of GEF’s large fundraisers is the Annual State of the Schools Breakfast, this year taking place on Oct. 5.
“The breakfast is an opportunity to show support for Glendale public schools, learn about the innovative programs occurring in our schools and hear from Superintendent Winfred Roberson,” said Hamilton. For more information about the breakfast, visit www.glened.org or call (818) 247-0466.
GEF will host two more business partnerships this winter and another in the spring.
