It was a delicious weekend on Sept. 19-20 when Glendale Healthy Kids held its annual Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? fundraiser. Ten homes and restaurants throughout the Glendale area hosted guests who paid for the pleasure of not only enjoying a sumptuous meal, but meeting local dignitaries who were present at each location.
Glendale Unified School Board President Mary Boger and Don Russ sponsored a fine dining experience at the Boger Cape Cod style home. Guest Chef Don Russ prepared a Southwestern dinner with mango vodka surprise cocktails, Gazpacho with lobster, Chilean sea bass tostada, chili powdered NY steak with tomato sauce, mini green corn tamales, stuffed chili with various cheeses and flan for dessert.
The Bogers have hosted one of the dinners “every single year – except when we were redoing the kitchen,” Boger said. “[Glendale Healthy Kids] is such an important part of our community.”
At Gail’s Bistro (formerly Gourmet A Go Go) in Montrose, owner Gail Connell oversaw a kitchen that was busy presenting a feast that included pizza, fried rice balls and a main course that featured prosciutto over chicken with asparagus. Individual tiramisu finished the meal. Connell paired fine wines with her appetizers and main course.
GHK executive director Camille Levee estimated that 275 people attended the event from which the proceeds will jump start the organization’s new Everyday is Give Kids a Smile Day.
The program builds on a previous single day, annual event that provides local under insured, low income children with dental exams, teeth cleaning and other preventative services.
Levee reminds families who need the services that Glendale Healthy Kids can arrange to call the organization when services are needed, not before, as pre-qualification is not needed.
