Guests and members of the La Crescenta Valley Republican Women Federated filled the Oak Room of the Oakmont Country Club on Thursday afternoon to hear guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Robert “Buzz” Patterson. Patterson is a 20-year military combat pilot and, from 1996 to 1998, was a White House military aide under President Clinton. He is the author of two best sellers, “Dereliction of Duty” and “Reckless Disregard.” His most recent books are “War Crimes” and “Conduct Unbecoming.”
His stories riveted the audience. He said how he accompanied President Clinton everywhere because he carried the “nuclear football,” the emergency satchel that held the nation’s nuclear codes.
According to Patterson, the United States had eight chances to take down Osama Bin Laden before 9/11 happened. He shared other intimate details of living in the White House as well.
The club’s next meeting will be Oct. 11 with guest speaker Craig Huey discussing the issues facing voters on the Nov. 6 ballot. To attend, call Joan at (818) 790-0014 for reservations.
