Over 100 of La Cañada and surrounding communities enjoyed an evening of fun and entertainment on Saturday, Sept. 19 while generously donating to the LCF Station Fire Thank You Fund.The firefighter fundraiser event, “An Evening of Entertainment” held in Memorial Park in La Cañada, resulted in over $1,000 being raised for the fund.The event featured musical performances by Les Brers, Emma Shupper, The Bluegrass Billionaires, Minstral King and Michael Burtenwith magic performances by Kyle Eschen, John Accardo and event emcee Jackson Ridd, who also performed balloon folding among the crowd for the many children present.The bake sale organized by volunteer Nancy Eschen was enthusiastically received, with baked goods donated by Berolina Bakery, Cakery Bakery, Oven Fresh and Vons with coffee donated by Starbucks. Representatives of LCHS Student Body, St. Francis Student Body, Boy Scouts of America, LCHS Key Club, and the National Charity League of Glendale were on hand and worked tirelessly throughout the evening.
Firefighters from La Cañada Flintridge Stations 19 and 82 arrived in their fire vehicles and offered support for the event while interacting with the performers and attendees throughout the evening.Singer/songwriter Michael Burten concluded the evening’s performances with a song, “Firefighting Man,” a tune which he wrote for the firefighters.La Cañada resident Jackson Ridd organized the event.“I want to thank all the local businesses who provided their support, and the entertainers for providing their talents. Also a big thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the event happen, the great people at City Hall, and all those brave firefighters who defended our community against the recent fires,” Ridd said. “I’m very touched by the generosity of everyone involved, and I’m happy that we were able to raise some money for our dedicated firefighters and their families.”
