Several happy pooches of all sizes and breeds came with their pet-parents to attend the Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital’s “Dog Party” event on Oct. 6 at Crescenta Valley Park. The Dog Party had games, contests, food, a selfie-photo booth, a professional photo booth, and products for both dogs and their owners. There was even a costume contest for the best-dressed dog.

The Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital is located at 3502 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta and has been providing high-quality veterinary services to pets in the surrounding community for over 60 years, since 1958.  They are open 7 days a week. Dr. James Speas, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, has been the owner of the Pet Hospital for the last 24 years and is dedicated to keeping pets happy and healthy.

“We do the Dog Party as a thank you to the community for taking good care of their pets.  The Dog Party is an opportunity for dogs and owners to come out and play,”  Speas said.

Nick Gonzalez and his dog, “Loki” won the “balance-a-plastic-egg-on-a-spoon-and-walk-your-dog” contest challenge.  In addition, Loki, a chocolate labradoodle, came in first place for the pie-eating contest (whipped cream with sprinkles).

“Loki was a natural at the pie-eating contest,”  Gonzalez said.

Many of the dogs came dressed in costumes for the costume contest, so it looked like the park was filled with a menagerie of animals, such as a pink flamingo, unicorn, shark, turtle, alligator, lion, a Woodstock hippie (named “Spirit Kennedy”) and several Halloween costumes like a witch and ghoul.

In addition to the contests and games, plus freebie dog treat and toy giveaways, there was also free food.  You guessed it–what else to serve at a dog party?  Hot dogs!
