Community Center Intern Joins the Youth Ceramics Staff

Ruby Percival

A participant over the summer in the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge’s Teen Apprentice Program has officially joined the staff as a youth ceramics instructor.

Ruby Percival will be teaching preschool, parent and me, and junior ceramics classes. Percival said she is excited about her new position.

“I love working with kids and sharing my love for pottery with the next generation,” she said.

Percival discovered ceramics in her sophomore year at Crescenta Valley High School. She “fell in love” with everything clay and started in the Community Center’s teen ceramics program soon afterward.

Percival originally hails from Manchester, England and currently majors in chemistry at Pasadena City College. She holds an associates degree in natural sciences and strives to one day become a research scientist. She has a keen interest in aligning her love for science with her love for pottery, investigating new glazes and techniques.

Percival spent over 100 hours this past summer as an apprentice in the youth ceramics summer camps.

“Ruby is incredible,” said Ella Tamny, youth ceramics coordinator. “She brings so much positive energy to every single class. I really appreciate her presence and dedication.”

Youth ceramics fall classes for ages 5-13 run from Oct. 21 – Dec. 14 and registration is available online at cclcf.clubautomation.com.
