According to Centers for Disease Control, other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Regular mammograms and early detection can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. During the month of October, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital is offering $99 mammograms in its Dixie Lee Ratliff Breast Center.
To help USC-VHH raise awareness of its campaign for breast health, the Glendale Police Dept., which has six pink in-service patrol motorcycles, parked a pink patrol vehicle car at the main entrance of USC Verdugo Hills Hospital the mornings of Oct. 17, 18 and 19. During the month all Glendale police officers are also donning a pink patch on their uniforms.
“We’re so excited to be doing this again,” said GPD spokesperson Tahnee Lightfoot. “Anything we can do to shed light on this important health topic and remind women to receive proper screening is of utmost importance. There’s nothing like seeing a police officer on a pink motorcycle to remind you to get your annual mammogram, or to encourage your wife, sister or girlfriend to do so.”
USC Verdugo Hills Hospital is located at 1812 Verdugo Blvd., Glendale. Ninety-nine dollar mammograms can be scheduled by calling (818) 952-2266 and will be provided at the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Women’s Breast Center, known as the Dixie Lee Ratliff Breast Center, located at 1818 Verdugo Blvd. Suite 103, Glendale 91208.
