Imagine that you are 7,488 miles from home, in a country where you more than likely do not understand the language and every day is another danger. You are away from your loved ones and friends, away from home. And then the holidays roll around.
That is what it is like for those serving in the military in Afghanistan. They have bonded with friends there but there really is no place like home. So the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is sending a little bit of home to those so far away.
They are filling over 150 stockings with needed items like sun block, foot powder, bug repellent, Chap Stick and other items. There are pink stockings for girls, red for boys. The project was started by Nancy Riehl who once lived in Crescenta Valley and to her this community still feels like
home. Her son is serving over seas and she knows what it is like to be the one on this
side of the ocean. The stockings are a way for all of the community to make the holidays a little more cheerful.
Those who want to donate can only do so until Friday. For questions contact (818) 248-4957 or visit cvcoc@aol.com or crescentachamber@aol.com.
