Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center along with The Glendale Memorial Health Foundation honored the Porto Family at the 28th Annual Evening of Wine and Roses on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena. The Foundation presented the Porto Family of Porto’s Bakery and Café in Glendale with its Humankindness Award for their generous contributions to the Glendale community.
“The Porto Family embodies one of our core Dignity Health values – stewardship,” states hospital President Jack Ivie. “The very work they do to support and, in many cases, heal the community is among the key reasons Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital and the Glendale Memorial Health Foundation are so pleased to recognize the Porto’s Family.”
The bakery helps numerous organizations in greater Glendale including Glendale Healthy Kids, the Glendale police and fire departments, and the Glendale YWCA to name a few. Each day, Porto’s bakery offers any remaining baked goods to the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, which serves men, women, and children experiencing homelessness.
“While my family is very honored to be awarded the Glendale Memorial Health Foundation Humankindness Award, it takes a village to do what we do, and if it wasn’t for the community, we couldn’t do it at all,” said Betty Porto.
The proceeds from this year’s Evening of Wine and Roses will be used to upgrade the surgical suites with new state-of-the-art equipment, specifically a new C-Arm, and X-ray navigation system that creates enhanced 3D imaging for doctors performing spine and orthopedic procedures. This new equipment will provide patients will a safer surgical environment that fosters faster and better healing.
