On Oct. 28, the 512 students of La Crescenta Elementary School met children authors and illustrators Tao Nyeu, Alexis O’Neill, Mark London Williams and Michelle Markel at the school when the authors and illustrators visited each classroom to talk about the importance of reading.
Assistance League Glendale, which has sponsored the program since 1997, also donated $1,500 to the school library to purchase more books so each teacher could get a book of their choice from one of the authors for their classroom. After school, the authors’ books were for sale at a discount so children could buy them and have them personalized with an autograph by the author as a keepsake of the day.
