The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada helped propel the Thanksgiving spirit as the members stepped up and made contributions to two vital organizations. They partnered with the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge by presenting a $2,510 for the Center’s ever-popular Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive to benefit the Bailey Human Care Center in Tujunga. The Union Station Homeless Services also benefited from the Kiwanis generosity when Union Station received $850 dedicated for vital services and food in time for its 50th anniversary “Dinner in the Park” program for which the Kiwanis is a friendship sponsor.
Heading up the check presentation to CCLCF Executive Director Ethan Stern was Kiwanis Club of La Cañada Community Service Task Force Chairperson Linda Fors, including Task Force member Dr. Michael Leininger. The funds for the virtual event were raised by the Kiwanis Club members who rallied support during a noontime meeting, with more funds coming in.
“The Kiwanis is thrilled that the Bailey Human Care Center in Tujunga will receive the food collected at this year’s Community Center food drive,” said Fors. “Bailey has seen the need quadruple since COVID began. In fact, last week their volunteers gave out food to more than 700 people … and those numbers grow each week. Many of these recipients are families with children, and the Kiwanis are committed to serving children here, and throughout the world.”

“During this difficult time, it is particularly important that we remember those who are less fortunate,” said Kiwanis Club of LC President Dennis Fors of the donation to the Union Station. “After hearing an informational presentation by Anne Miskey, CEO of Union Station Homeless Services, the members of La Cañada Kiwanis spontaneously offered donations to support their good work. We are pleased to be a sponsor for their 2020 virtual Dinner in the Park event.”
