Dr. Fred Shooley was installed as the 67th president of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada at a gala banquet dinner held at the Oakmont Country Club. He succeeds Tom Passanisi who served the 2013-14 Kiwanis year. Brian Swartz was honored with the Gil Smith Award and the Reverend Dr. Gary Dennis, who recently retired as pastor of the La Cañada Presbyterian Church, received the prestigious Distinguished Service Award.
Shooley was born in Stockton and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkley. He served as a bio energy program manager for 31 years at JPL.
His leadership roles at Kiwanis have varied. Since he joined the club in 2005, he has managed the Ed Moulton Endowment Fund as chairman and he has also served as program and interclub chairman for the 2013-14 year. He has three children – Kenneth, Allan, and Christine – and five grandchildren.
He looks forward to a productive year leading the 96-member club honoring the Kiwanis goal of “Changing the World, One Child and One Community at a Time.”
