A chilly night at the Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena was the venue for the annual Las Candelas holiday party on Dec. 8. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Las Candelas Lights the Way,” and 60 guests enjoyed the holiday ambiance of the Valley Hunt Club.

President Jeannie Flint, who was accompanied by her husband David Werbelow, welcomed guests after an hour-long reception, inviting them to be seated for a prime rib dinner that was topped off with bread pudding and cinnamon ice cream.

Enjoying the event were Glendale residents Patti and Ron Baker, Debbie and Bruce Hinckley, Cathy and Bob Keen, Ginny and John Simpson, Sal and Roberta Gangi, Carolyn and Ron Beaton, Shirley Johnstone, Ann Ways, Marilyn Butler, and Judy Heyes. Also from Glendale were Ann and Stan Jones, Mary and Don Boger, Fran and Terry Buchanan, and Jeri Benton and Robert Clark.  Marion and Paul Greene, Valery Moorhead, Marilyn and Earl Olson, Sally and Jim Perkins, Harriett and Bob Rector, J.C. and John Byer, Linda and Robert Gregg, Glady and Jack Kabateck and Nancy and Chip Stone wrapped up the list of Glendale attendees. The annual event was chaired by Cathy Keen.

Las Candelas is a Glendale-based non-profit organization that was organized in 1953 with the purpose to give volunteer service to emotionally disturbed children and to promote a better understanding of mental health. The group, which consists of 40 members, brings monthly programs to at-risk children at Hathaway-Sycamores in Altadena and the Hillside Education Center in Pasadena. Las Candelas also provides financial support to Didi Hirsch, Glendale Healthy Kids and the YWCA of Glendale.
