On Saturday, Dec. 4, local children had a chance to meet St. Nick up close and personal at the annual Breakfast With Santa event held at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club.
From Rosemont Middle School, music director Rod Yonkers set the holiday mood with a select group of student musicians who played Christmas melodies throughout the sumptuous brunch. There were enough pastries to satisfy any child’s sweet tooth and plenty of hot dishes to gratify the adults.
Vickie the Elf was on hand, helping boys and girls create pictures and cards for their families. Paint, paper, stickers, and crayons were the artists’ tools of choice.
When Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived from the North Pole for this special visit to La Crescenta, the excitement and volume rose considerably. While free photos were being taken of the children and families with the jolly visitors (Santa didn’t want anyone to be left out), other kids were playing on the floor with toys they had won with opportunity tickets.
About the time that the youngest guests had started falling asleep in their grandpa’s arms, a big red fire truck arrived in the club parking lot. Photos were taken inside and out of the fire truck while the patient firefighters from Station 63 in La Crescenta posed with and talked to the lively youngsters.
Kudos were extended to Ruth Warner, curator of the Woman’s Club Juniors and chairman of the annual event, and her committee: Wendy Alane Wright-Smith, Debbie Taylor, Merry Kropff, Amira Smith, Ann Marie Ortiz, Vickie Warren, Marilyn Wright and Vickie Guagliardo.
