Bringing Business to Your Door in 2020

Welcome to 2020! It is a privilege to serve the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce as its new executive director. Those of us who are fortunate to live and work in the Crescenta Valley recognize our community for its diversity in language, thought and culture yet we blend together to accomplish much. The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is our community’s source of information for building a cohesive network among local business, residents and government agencies. This is what we do!

Our Chamber celebrates the New Year with the installation of our 2020 board of directors today, Jan. 9 at Oakmont Country Club. We are pleased to announce the addition of Vince Iuculano, chief operating officer of the YMCA of the Foothills, to our board. Vince brings a wealth of experience to our community having served for the past three years as the executive director at the Gardena-Carson Family YMCA. We welcome Vince, his wife Kelly, and their daughter Grey Lynn to our Chamber family. At the same time, we thank board members Lisa Dupuy and Lisa Foster who are stepping down to concentrate on other activities, and our Chamber honorary mayor Keith Hobbs who is handing over his duties to Dr. J.D. Speas. Their contributions to our board will be sincerely missed.

At the luncheon is also the annual distribution of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce/Mary Pinola Education Endowment Fund grant awards to deserving community organizations. Mary’s amazing education fund has grown considerably over the past several years, thanks in part to her unlimited energy and some very dedicated fellow education endowment fund board members. The total for this year’s grant awards exceeds $18,000! Congratulations to Mary and kudos to this year’s grant recipients.

Our newest Chamber member is Ace Hardware of La Crescenta (Lawrence Stuart) at 3100 Foothill Blvd. Located at the former site of OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware), Ace Hardware opened its doors on Dec. 17 and retained many of the former OSH employees to greet and serve you. Ace Hardware will be hosting a “board cutting” (aka ribbon cutting) on Feb. 14 to celebrate the store opening. I’ll see you there.

Want to help support our Crescenta Valley community? El Charro Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, located at 3741 N. Verdugo Road in Montrose (just north of Anawalt Lumber) is hosting a “dine out fundraiser” on Wednesday, Jan. 15 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. with 20% of your order helping to support Chamber community activities. It is one of the oldest and best known restaurants in the community, but did you know El Charro is the birthplace of Taco Tuesday? Yes, that is a documented fact … the theme Taco Tuesday was conceived over 50 years ago right here at this local Mexican eatery. So plan to come out to El Charro on Jan. 15 to enjoy great food, drink, and ambiance – all while supporting your community at the same time.

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce exists for one reason – to serve you …our business community and residents. Our motto is “Our Business is Your Business.” Bringing business to your door in 2020 is our goal! Please stop by our Chamber office at 3131 Foothill Blvd., Suite D to say “hello” and chat with me. It’s where the American flag proudly flies and hot coffee is always available.
