Event Cleans Up Your Home Without Burdening Landfills

“Due to ongoing technological advancement, many of electronic products become obsolete within a very short period of time, creating a large surplus of unwanted electronic products, or ‘e-waste.’ Disposing of e-waste in landfills has the potential to cause severe human and environmental health impacts.” -Department of Toxic Substances; www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/ewaste.

Luckily there are people such as Armond Abramian of SoCal Recycling Industries, Inc. to help make sure that our landfills are not filled with e-waste, which could potentially severely impact human and environmental health.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, SoCal Recycling Industries and the CV Chamber is bringing a free e-waste recycling event to the Crescenta Valley.

Bring your PCs, CPUs, televisions, CRT monitors, printers, fax machines, copiers, or most other electronics to the CV Chamber office parking lot for e-recycling.  Call the chamber if you have a question about what electronics they will take. The CV Chamber and SoCal Recycling are organizing this event that will take place at the chamber office parking lot at Palms Plaza, 3131 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta on Saturday, Jan. 21from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. SoCal Recycling will make sure your e-waste is properly handled, disposed of and recycled. They also include identity theft protection via data destruction of your hard drives. And the best part of it is you are helping the environment and putting less in the landfills!

As a pioneer in green business, SoCal Recycling has grown from a small, independent business to a professional service provider. I interviewed owner Armond about how he got started in this business.

He said, “I started SoCal Recycling Industries in December of 1998. Our specialty is providing recycling collection services and fundraising for local schools.”    I asked him what he likes about his job and what his specialty is. “I love being outdoors and meeting new and interesting people while helping provide recycling services to those in need. Our specialty is our ability to cater our services to suit the needs of each and every client.”

He said the hardest part about his job is getting people to accept that they must change their habits to make recycling work. Armond starts this education at an early age by bringing information about recycling to the elementary schools. He enjoys the many letters he has received from children at local elementary schools noting the importance of recycling.
