Filling the Void

“The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities; but to know someone who thinks and feels with us, and who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.”  Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Have you seen what is developing at 3470 Ocean View Blvd., just below Montrose? One of our members, Surface Fitness, a unique and innovated fitness program, is currently under construction fixing up this location. Surface Fitness is making this a great place for kids of all ages to combine physical fitness and conditioning with learning how to live a healthy lifestyle and appreciating the benefits of high-quality nutrition. Shannon Pondella, owner and creator of Surface Fitness, earned her bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science. She has also earned her certified personal trainer certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Along with her personal trainer certification, she has also earned her youth fitness specialist and fitness nutrition specialist certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Her passion for helping children started in sports facilities and on the field. Whether it is a personal training session or a group class, she knows the importance of helping kids and providing a foundation for a lifetime of physical activity and good health. Their mission is to empower the youth of today and the future in actively building healthy lifestyles that consist of physical fitness and proper nutrition. Their revelation is to provide parents with a safe and secure environment for their kids to participate in physical activity and enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. You can reach Shannon at (818) 359-1780 or info@surfacefitness.com.

Longtime chamber member La Crescenta Pharmacy, located at 2764 Foothill Blvd., was given the “oldest Foothill business” title by CV Weekly columnist and former historical society president Mike Lawler. Mike wrote that the owner, KB, “feels a responsibility to his staff and to the community” and that “he works and makes decisions as though God is watching over his shoulder. La Crescenta Pharmacy personifies the community loyalty displayed by independent businessmen.” KB told us, “We are big enough to be competitive and small enough to care!” They will give 10% off to anyone without health insurance (includes pets!). They offer both prescription and non-prescription medications, and also have an ATM, flowers, food and drink, greeting cards, household essentials and lottery tickets.

Thank you to these and all our members that work together to make this community better.
