Mixing It Up
The CV Chamber had a super successful mixer on Tuesday night at the Fire House youth center on the grounds of St. Luke’s of the Mountains. Chamber board member Mary O’Keefe coordinated the evening, which included some delicious food prepared by Julie Dowse. (My mouth is still watering from those meatballs and mac & cheese.)
Mary gave some information regarding the history of the Fire House (former fire station 19) and guest Joe Kroening added to that since he remembers when it was station 19! Mary also shared the history of the building as a youth center, which she spearheaded the creation of over 10 years ago. The Fire House serves the youth of the community including serving breakfast to Rosemont students every Wednesday morning during the school year. Mary is assisted by the always-there Julie Dowse and other locals who understand the importance of serving our youth and make a point of volunteering to flip pancakes every Wednesday morning. Supplies are always needed; please consider dropping off a gift card for one of our local markets or bringing by instant pancake mix, brown-and-serve sausages, water or orange juice … like Lynn McGinnis did earlier this week! He heard the call and answered; thanks, Lynn!
Tonight, March 7, is another mixer. This one is the pre-Smart A Thon mixer that is being held at Bob Smith Toyota, 3333 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. It’s unique in not only will it give local businesses and residents a chance to mix and mingle but it is when the Mary Pinola Education Fund will distribute grants! (The attached flyer has more details.)
Tonight’s mixer is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; admission is $15 for chamber members, $20 for non-members. For those thinking about becoming a chamber member, do it tonight! Pay the membership fee at the mixer and you’ll get in at no additional cost plus the enrollment fee of $25 will be waived! Such a deal!
A big thank you goes out to honorary mayor (and chamber board member) Dwight Sityar and board members Robert Manciero and Donna Libra who attended the ribbon cutting on Feb. 10 for LA Smile Orthodontics in Glendale. What a great way to start a new business!
Finally, the Chamber is excited to announce it has moved the Hometown Country Fair to June 22. It will still be at CV Park (3901 Dunsmore Ave.) and feature all the things people have come to expect from this popular event. Mark your calendars!
