Race to the Fair

Warm weather and clear skies highlight racing excitement!

The Crescenta Valley Day at the Races at Santa Anita couldn’t have been more perfect.  This past Sunday a joint benefit for the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Support Group and the Crescenta Valley and Montrose chambers of commerce gathered many from our valley, even Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station Commander Captain Bill Song, who expertly manned the barbecue. Special thanks to Rick Dinger of Crescenta Valley Insurance who coordinated the perfect grandstand experience, and Pat Longo with Andy’s Transfer & Storage and Len Pieroni of the CV Sheriff’s Support Group, who brought all the great food from Schreiner’s. Nine Thoroughbred races, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and lots of great friends made for a fabulous day!

The countdown begins and the excitement is building! Our 9th Annual Hometown Country Fair is a few weeks away! With very special thanks to Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation, this year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Crescenta Valley Park. This is by far one of the best events of the year and its popularity is evident in that it attracts everyone under the sun, from families and arts and crafts lovers to dog and animal admirers, from thrill seekers and amusement park riders to fair food fanatics and hot rod car show enthusiasts and those who appreciate great music, live, local entertainment, and good ’ole fashioned people watching. It really is a hometown event and has managed to showcase all the nooks and crannies of our unique and very special town. If you have something to promote or sell, we want you to join us, as we welcome profit and non-profit vendors. There will be a raffle to win an iPad mini; tickets are on sale now for a very low $5 each. We will also have an impressive silent auction and a pie-eating contest. Before it all commences, there will be an early morning 5K race to get your blood pumping so you will be full of energy and ready to take advantage of all of this fun! And, best of all, entrance to the fair is free for everyone! We look forward to seeing you on April 5!

The 26th Annual Smart-A-Thon will be on Wednesday, March 26 at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.

April business mixer will be at the First Baptist Church of La Crescenta on Wednesday, April 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
