Please join us for our April mixer outdoors under the stars. First Baptist Church – La Crescenta will be hosting the mixer in their beautiful new outdoor courtyard at 4441 La Crescenta Ave.

FBCLC has been part of the Crescenta Valley community for over 65 years. In 1945, a group of Swedish-Americans founded this church. It was founded on the basis that God’s love for each of us is one of the important truths of life. Today, FBCLC is a diverse congregation celebrating unity in Christ. Pastor Bill Flanders is very active in the community and is always looking for ways to reach out. He attends our chamber mixers regularly, hosts the Lunch Bunch for CVHS students every Wednesday that is sponsored by the Montrose Church, serves on the board of CV Alliance that works to prevent underage drug and alcohol use in the Crescenta Valley and is now hosting our April business mixer.

Bill served at a number of churches throughout Southern California before he became the lead pastor at FBCLC in July 2009. His wife Tammy is the choir director and they have five children and four grandchildren. An interesting tidbit of information about Bill is that during college he was commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps where he served five years as a helicopter pilot and advanced to the rank of captain. While in the Marines, he received his bachelors’ degree from Pepperdine University and later received his Masters of Divinity degree from Talbot Theological Seminary. Bill says that the mission of First Baptist La Crescenta is, “to introduce people to Jesus Christ, to help them grow to be more like Him, and then to replicate the process in others. We are committed to be a church where every member is actively reaching out to the greater Crescenta Valley in practical, caring, and intentional ways. This includes hosting and cooperating with ethnic congregations on our church campus, joining together with other churches in the CV valley, and cooperating in joint community outreaches and ministries.”

It seems like hosting a mixer for the business community is a perfect fit! Please join us Wednesday, April 2 for kabobs, refreshments and live music under starts at FBCLC.

The VFW and American Legion are having a special ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial this Saturday at 8 a.m. as they again say, “Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans” and honor those who were a part of the “Forgotten War” between North and South Korea in the early 1950s.

Join us also on April 11 at 5 p.m. when we welcome Stephanie Wiley Photography and Thotshop Creative to the area. You can read more about this in my article next week.
