Honolulu Road Diet
As you may or may not know, the Glendale City Council recently approved the test-case conversion of Honolulu Avenue from four travel lanes to three travel lanes (“road diet”) between Orangedale Avenue and approximately Whiting Woods Road. What does this mean for you? Do you have questions or concerns about the Honolulu Road Diet? Then please attend the community outreach meeting on April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center, 1613 Glencoe Way. The public meeting is to make sure the community knows about the planned “road diet” in Montrose and what to expect. City officials are encouraging cyclists, residents, property owners and anyone else who has questions to attend. This is your opportunity to speak up and speak out about your concerns. Don’t miss it. There was a community outreach meeting last night.
This test-case conversion will include the installation of a designated bicycle lane in each direction. The “road diet” is to test the viability of dedicated bike lanes on Honolulu Avenue. The City Council ordered the test case in an effort to provide a baseline for how road diets work. Glendale’s Draft Bicycle Transportation Plan includes a more bike-friendly approach and this test will determine if others can be installed in more areas of the city. The lane reconfigurations are planned to last nine to 12 months.
