Bringing Business Back to Your Door in 2020
Okay, we’re each going through a very difficult time. Our businesses are closed, many of us are either laid off or out of work, we’re “trapped” in our homes and/or apartments, and the medical experts are telling us it’s going to get even worse. So what do we do?
Right now the most important thing for each of us to remember … we’re going to be fine and we will come back even stronger and more resilient than before. That’s what always happens. We’ve been through the turmoil of the ’60s, Vietnam, gasoline lines, the real estate and stock market collapses, recession, civil unrest, 9/11, earthquakes, fires and now the coronavirus. This latest turmoil will eventually pass but in the meantime here are a few suggestions to keep things together.
First, those of you with businesses, even if you are currently closed, should keep in touch with your employees and customers. Call them, email or text them, let them know you are concerned about their well-being and, if possible, you are there to help them.
Second, use this time to call and connect with your friends from the past. We were “too busy” before but now that we have so much time on our hands it’s the right time to make those calls.
Third, watch over those who are elderly, in need of attention, and experiencing stress. It doesn’t take much time to reach out and show compassion but the benefit to others will last a lifetime.
And finally, volunteer your time to keep our community looking beautiful and kept. If only 50 of you, once a week, randomly picked up trash along our sidewalks, streets and community landscape beds, the benefit to our entire Crescenta Valley community would be astronomical!
Our Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce has had to cancel some of our events and activities and postpone a few others. First, the Chamber’s Mary Pinola Education Fund month of March “Smart-A-Thon” event was canceled but Mary and the Fund’s board of advisors would certainly appreciate donations to the Fund. To learn more about making a donation, please call the Community Foundation of the Verdugos at (818) 241-8040 or make checks payable to Community Foundation of the Verdugos and write Pinola Fund in the left hand bottom memo portion of the check. Donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law. Mail to either the Chamber office or the office of the Community Foundation of the Verdugos, 111 E. Broadway Ste. 200, Glendale, CA 91205.
Our April 18 Hometown Country Fair at Crescenta Valley Park has been postponed to a possible Saturday date in August and the May 15 Poker Night at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital has been postponed to a future 2020 date.
Looking ahead – save the date: Upcoming CV Chamber events to mark in your calendar: 1) YMCA of the Foothills mixer at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 28; 2) Scholl Canyon mixer at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17; 3) CV Chamber annual golf tournament and lunch at Scholl Canyon Golf Course at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 26.
