Getting Ready for the Craft Beer Fest

Lynn Thatcher and Victoria Malone working at the Harvest Market sharing the Craft Beer Fest info and selling tickets.

Here at the Montrose~Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce we are preparing for the 6th Annual Montrose Craft Beer Fest being held this Sunday, April 7. Our event venue is the lovely 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue here in Montrose. From noon to 4 p.m. attendees can enjoy the independent micro-brews brought to the event by the craftsmen and women who share their brewing passion and expertise.

The partnership with the craft brewers of this event has been cultivated over the last few years by local business owner Lynn Thatcher. Lynn works side-by-side with her grandpa Jack at Montrose Barber Shop and, through her work, she exemplifies the traits of the shop: commitment and connection to the community. Lynn also brings her own expertise and knowledge of craft beer from her experience at We’re Pouring Restaurant & Taphouse. The establishment, located at 524 E. Glenoaks Blvd. in Glendale, is a gastropub-style restaurant and taphouse that specializes in craft beer paired with delicious food. Lynn’s husband John Sullivan opened the gastropub a couple of years ago. With this partnership, We’re Pouring also sponsors the tasting glass each general admission ticket holder will receive.

When Lynn is not in Montrose being of service to our community, she can be found working at We’re Pouring and being of service to the customers of that community. This serves as the starting ground for the unique relations and connections Lynn has cultivated with many of the craft brewery reps. Lynn works with a list of over 500 LA area breweries. From there she calls, emails, talks and even visits with these brewery reps. She vets these breweries to bring together a list that has heightened the quality of the Craft Beer Fest event.

This year Lynn has presented a delicious array of top breweries: Angel City Brewery, Beachwood Brewing & Blendery, Brewyard Beer Company, Bottle Logic Brewing, Calidad Beer, Deschutes Brewery, El Segundo Brewing Co., Five Threads Brewing Company, Fort Point Beer Company, Frogtown Brewery, Hilltop Homebrewers, Lucky Luke Brewing, Modern Times Beer, San Fernando Brewing Co., Santa Maria Brewing Co., Simmzy’s Burbank, State Brewing Co., Transplants Brewing Company and Trustworthy Brewing Co.

Taking the quality level of breweries into consideration, and working with our local area restaurateurs, MVCC has partnered with Basin 141, Gina Feed’s Catering, Giuseppe’s Pizzeria Montrose, John Sparr Tavern, Ocean View Bar & Grill, The Left Handed Cook, Trader Joe’s and Tribe to Table.

Special additions and unique offerings will also be provided by Rosso Wine Shop, a local favorite; Star Café, providing hot coffee, Food Alchemy, providing cold press infused coffee, Slice of Templeton, new this year with beef jerky and Essentia Water, sponsoring water bottles.

This year has brought some fun sponsorships and a raffle ticket sale to include Kale Marketing sponsoring three-day/two-night accommodations holiday stay at one of 19 location options plus two sets of two tickets to Universal Studios.

The Montrose Shopping Park Association and the MVCC will be manning the Montrose booth, providing information about the area businesses, swag bags and $10 in scrip. CV Weekly will be present with a booth and the Elks of Glendale will be helping along with 40 community members who are volunteering to provide service and assistance.

Come on out and enjoy a few hours in the community, listen to DJ Chloe, play some lawn games (Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, and Corn Hole sponsored by Jenkins Property Management) and snap a pic in the photo op station for your group pictures and selfies sponsored by Heart of Lending. And to complete the experience as a connoisseur, please utilize the Montrose Craft Beer website Tasting Card to track your tastings.
