Remember how thrilling the Easter egg hunts were growing up? For me it was Chinquapin Park in Baltimore, a long stretch of park with a creek that ran the length of it. There were plenty of places to hide eggs among the rocks and grasses there and such a thrill when you would find a brightly colored one peeking out. That was many years ago and I still enjoy the thrill of the hunt. This time Honolulu Avenue served as the park and Easter surprises were the reward.

One of my favorite stops was the Montrose Candy Co. Allie was working and had fun showing me all the new stuff: Easter Dots, Lindt gold bunnies, Jelly Belly Candy Corn and Cadbury Mini Eggs. Of course they are doing custom Easter baskets. If you want to guarantee a visit from the Easter bunny, try one of their new “Bunny Bait Bars.”

I met the new owners of Critters – a lovely family – Jack, Christine and their 5-year-old Jessica. They also are doing one of a kind Easter baskets. When you purchase $30 worth of goodies they will throw in the basket and cellophane wrap. Here you’ll find bunny lip gloss, cute little plush bunnies, ducks and chicks. There’s also a Garden in a Can that would make a fun hostess gift, as well as a nice selection of Easter cards.

Lara’s Gifts had a nice selection of pastel, decorated styrofoam eggs on picks, perfect to stick in a potted plant and give as a gift. Mountain Rose Gifts has a whole new crop of bunnies and chicks in all shapes and sizes to display on your Easter dinner table. It helps to set the mood and make things festive. Victori-Ana is home to Easter elegance with pink glass and fancy column candles.

To scent your home, Twigs & Things has a Lemon & Lavender Yankee candle that is lilac in color and makes a beautiful background for yellow chicks.

So come on out this week. The weather should be lovely, the bakeries loaded with decorated cakes and cookies, and of course our restaurants are here with lots of treats. By the way, a must try is the new Montrose Wine & Kabob. I just did and it is excellent! I’ll be writing more on that subject soon.

Happy Easter!
