The Hometown Country Fair
The Hometown Country Fair is only two weeks away! We’ve got a great line-up of entertainment for kids, adults, teens and even pets. Be sure to mark your calendar for this free event on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the beautiful, oak-filled Crescenta Valley Park.
We’ll start the day with an official welcome and a live performance of the national anthem. Then we’ll hear from Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. After that, the Rosemont School Jazz Band will jump, jive and wail their way into our hearts. The Martial Way, a La Crescenta martial arts studio, will perform an exciting demonstration followed by the super-spirited Rosemont Spartan Cheer Squad.
Mid-day, the CV Jazz Band will be on the main stage showing their considerable jazz-playing chops. Dancing encouraged. Then we’ll have our famously messy pie eating contest at around 12:30 p.m. Children under 18 can enter to win a special prize package if he or she is the first to finish their whipped cream and pudding pie – no hands allowed!
State Senator Anthony Portantino will be on hand to emcee some of the afternoon activities starting with the beautiful Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Choir. After that, we’ll have our fabulous dog parade. Doggy check-in starts at 1 p.m. with the parade starting around 1:30 p.m. It’s free to participate but donations are gratefully accepted and benefit local animal support groups. Dress your dog up for the big parade! Prizes will be awarded.
Classic rockers Faith Alone Band will perform after the dog parade – a good time to get up and dance! I’m not sure what treat Hiza Yoo’s Korean Dance Institute has for us this year but will likely perform their stunning fan dance and drum songs. Sahag Mesrob Armenian Christian School Choir will be up after that with their harmonious strains.
From approximately 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., we’ll have more live music. At 4:30 p.m., the stage will be taken over by karaoke video jockey Ernie Muraoka. Sign up at the Chamber booth to sing; the booth is just over the pedestrian bridge at the park (sign-ups throughout the day). Then get ready to wow your friends with your vocal prowess.
Besides the entertainment on the main stage, we’ll have inflatables, carnival rides, a petting zoo and activities in the vendor booth area. Of course, there will be food. One dollar for every $5 hamburger meal purchased at the Chamber kitchen will go back to the school designated. See your school’s bulletin for flyers.
