Applauding Those Special Community Folks

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce would like to applaud the numerous people who contributed time, effort and materials to make the sixth annual Hometown Country Fair a total success last weekend.

It was a great event and we appreciate all of the people from around the Crescenta Valley who came out to have fun with us; however, if it was not for about 25 people who worked diligently for probably about 3000 combined hours, this fair could not have been the success it was.

A huge thank you to Liza and Tim Morelli of Bonners Rentals in Tujunga. These owners of Bonners are at every event with not only all their supplies but prepared to roll up their sleeves and help with whatever is needed. If you ever need to rent anything, please start at Bonners.

We would also like to give a huge thank you to Leo and Leslie Lesh of Leo’s All Star Sports Bar and Grill in La Crescenta. Please go to Leo’s All Star Bar and have a beer in honor of all the great things these owners did to make the fair such a success.

Then there are people like Leonard Ghazarian of Caspian Services, Inc. and Marvin Lee of New Star Realty who flipped burgers in 90 degree weather, hauled in coffee for the volunteers, and did many more menial jobs – always with a smile.

Of course, there is Craig’s of Craig’s Electric and Steve Pierce (of Steve does everything) who came to the fair early and stayed late to make sure everything was done that needed to be done.

Applause goes to Lissa Mooney of Dream Dinners in La Crescenta for keeping our workers nourished and for all her help.

Kudos go to Bruce Bartels of Bruce’s Automotive for helping to organize and gather sponsors.

A special thanks to Todd Thornbury and Rachel Seward for a fantastic car show and for Neil Ryan for his top secret invention that made organizing the vendors 10 times easier.  Thanks to Chris Waldhiem of J’s Maintenance for making sure trash was picked up all day.

There were so many other people that worked countless hours and helped wherever needed like Warren Boehm, Ken Biermann, Marian Mirsky, Howard Hakes, Robin Goldsworthy, Grace Chase, Holly Heurkins, Richard Liss and last but never least our fearless leaders Eleanor Wacker for cracking the whip to make sure nothing fell through the cracks and Jean Maluccio who always tirelessly works a million hours, quietly behind the scenes.

Applause, kudos and thanks go to all these people and anyone that I have forgotten – sorry, still have fair hangover myself – that helped to make the Crescenta Valley such a great ‘HomeTown’!

Please eat out for lunch or dinner at Togos/Baskin Robins on May 3 for our First Tuesday Dine-Out Night and tell them you are with the chamber so a percentage of your meal cost will go to help the educational facilities in our community.

Please join us for refreshments and to thank the Woman’s Club for all they do.
