Sunday, May 5 is a day you will definitely want to spend in the Montrose Shopping Park. It seems all of the stars have converged at the same time and the activities and entertainment are boundless. Of course, it’s prime time for our weekly neighborhood reunion, the Sunday Harvest Market. That is always enough fun in and of itself. Layer on our 9th Annual Wags-N-Whiskers event benefitting the Glendale Humane Society that will have you singing “Who Let The Dogs Out? Ruff! Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!” On top of that is Kids-N-Kritters when we bring in pet and animal treats for the kiddos. For all the foodies in town we have tied in Taste of Montrose benefitting Prom Plus when you buy a $20 bracelet that lets you sample food from our numerous restaurants. And the icing on the cake is Cinco de Mayo, which just happens to fall on that day. Oh boy!

The dog action starts at 9 a.m. at Andersen’s Pet Shop where you can bring “poochie” and register for the dog walk. The walk supports the Glendale Humane Society and its Second Chance program that helps to rescue cats and dogs from shelters. There’s nothing like seeing the all of the dog breeds on their best behavior as they are paraded around the shopping park. To set up a fundraising page for your walk, visit www.firstgiving.com/ghs. Wags-n-Whiskers will have vendors including Yolanda’s Mobile Grooming and Pet Pac emergency planning kits for pets. Rescue groups like Sparky and the Gang and Greyhound rescue will have pets available for adoption. Dog trainers Penny Scott Fox and Paul Owens will be on hand as well. There will be fun, silly dog contests like best kisser, most ear-isitable ears, and dog/owner look-a-like.

All of the Wags & Kids events will take place in the 2300 block of Honolulu Avenue and a stage will be set up in front of Coffee Bean. It Takes A Village will be hosting an arts & crafts activity booth in front of its store just for kids. Local students from Play Just Right music will be performing three shows, featuring animal and kid songs. Their schedule is:

11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. – Disney Movie Favorites (performed by local high school students)

Noon to 12:45 p.m. – Pop Hits

1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. – Best Animal Songs (performed by local elementary school students)

In the Marketplace, watch for a new addition. Jackson Ridd will be doing magic and balloon twisting. Wild Wonders will be back with their exotic petting zoo. Critters to Go will be offering hand-led pony rides and bringing their petting zoo. Spring has seen many new additions to the petting zoo including a Holstein calf, baby goats and just this week a new lamb was born! WOW Inflatables will make their marketplace debut with exciting inflatables, rides, and attractions. Facemakers will be doing face painting and body art, and live music will be provided by The Subs. The Kids Zone will be in the 2300 block to allow Prom Plus’s Taste of Montrose event to take place in front of the Once Upon a Time/Polka Tots area.
