“Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures.” Jackson Brown
A new nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting local seniors has been introduced this month into the Crescenta Valley. ASTER, Assisting Seniors Through Enhanced Resources, is dedicated to bringing seniors and their families valuable information and resources necessary to properly care for our aging community.
The ASTER 60+ Discount Program is designed to help seniors in our area by having local merchants and service providers offer discounts. Seniors can request their free discount card by visiting www.theAster.org or by calling (818) 306-5224. Merchants can join the growing list of providers by completing the merchant application, also located on their site.
ASTER provides each business with a sign announcing this perk for those ages 60 or older. ASTER already has over 30 businesses offering senior discounts through their program.
In addition to spreading the word about senior discounts, ASTER provides a speaker series with the next event being July 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library. This talk will be on senior safety, fraud and scams.
A great way to find out more about this new organization is to join us at our next business mixer on June 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Century 21 Crest, 4005 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. This is a joint mixer with the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber so there will be a ton of great people to mix and mingle with.
Also please help a local restaurant and educational programs at the same time by eating out during our Dine Out Night on June 7 from
5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dominick’s Italian Restaurant, 2948 Foothill Blvd. The money helps the Mary Pinola/CV Chamber Educational Foundation, which gives over $15,000 in grants to educational programs in the Crescenta Valley each year.
Are you a golfer, or know one? Want to help local high school students get money for college? You can do both by playing in our scholarship golf tournament at the Verdugo Hills Golf Course on July 9. Visit our website or call our office for more information.
Hope to see you soon!
